State Tribal Research cum Cultural Centre and Museum T.R.I., Dehradun, Uttarakhand is the research body of the Ministry of Tribal affairs, Government of India at state level. It was established under the central sponsored scheme for the conservation and promotion of the culture and the all-round development of the five tribes of Uttarakhand namely Tharu, Jaunsari, Buksa, Bhotia and Raji. This scheme was initiated to strengthen the socio-economic development programmes operational in the tribal community by spreading awareness on laws meant to protect tribal rights and culture, development schemes and through representation of their challenges by bringing them to the forefront. This scheme aims to strengthen TRIs with special regards to infrastructure, research, documentation, as well as training and capacity building activities.
The institute was inaugurated by Shri Arjun Munda, Hon’ble Minister, Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India and Shri Trivendra Singh Rawat, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Uttarakhand on 21st August, 2019.
